How Offering Too Many Services Is Hurting Your Agency

When trying to grow your small web agency, you may think that offering multiple services will cast a wider net and attract more clients. This isn’t always the case. Trying to make your web agency a one-stop-shop can actually stunt its growth while also making life more difficult for you and your team.

Here are five major reasons why offering too many services could be hurting your agency:

1. Leaves the Wrong Impression

Offering more than 1–3 services can leave the wrong impression on some clients. If they have to scroll through a long services page just to find what they’re looking for, they may view your agency as scattered and unfocused. Worse, they may even see the one-stop-shop approach as a bit desperate.

If they don’t think you know what you’re doing, they’re not going to trust you with their business’s needs. That’s why you should focus your business, marketing, and web design towards no more than a few closely related services. Doing so will help potential clients perceive your agency as more professional, confident, and experienced.

2. Makes Marketing Difficult

Marketing is an essential component to both establishing and growing your business. Unfortunately, offering too many services can make marketing much more difficult and expensive. The reason for this is that you’re attempting to market multiple services to more than one specific target audience. To reach the clients you want to tap, you may have to run a wide range of ads on different social media platforms.

By focusing on one service or a few closely related services, you can make the most of your marketing budget and focus on just one target audience. This will save you from spending on multiple ad campaigns and contending with several different platforms that may not even get you the results you’re looking for.

3. Causes Unnecessary Stress

Managing a web agency can be a fast-paced and stressful job, no matter its size. For many agencies, most of that stress comes from having to market and provide multiple services at once.

Offering all these services usually means dealing with different programs, software, payment plans, and more. It can also make scheduling and hiring new employees a total nightmare, as you’ll need people with experience in multiple fields. Needless to say, focusing your business around one central service will save you a lot of time and stress, making it easier to find the perfect work/home life balance.

4. You Won’t Have a Speciality

As stated above, not having a speciality can make marketing your agency more difficult. It can also affect the overall quality of your agency. If you spread yourself too thin trying to offer multiple services, you’re not giving yourself or your team the time to master any of them.

When you focus on one central service, you can really put time towards staying on top of the latest trends, updates, and software. Why offer 10 subpar services when you could offer one or two expert services?

5. Overcomplicates Things for Clients

Your clients may not have the time to dig through your website or consult with you for hours on end about complex service packages and payment plans. They’re looking to your agency to take some of their stress away, not give them more to worry about. Unfortunately, offering too many services can do just that. In fact, offering too many options can be intimidating to potential clients, especially those that are new to running their own business.

Simplifying your processes is a fantastic way to grow your agency and attract new clients. This includes offering fewer services and presenting your services/products more clearly and succinctly. If you’re not sure how to simplify certain services provided by your agency, you could always hire someone experienced in your field to help you.
